Trauma informed care is an approach where the Practitioner is aware most individuals have experienced some form of trauma in their lifetime and the goal is to take care not to retraumatize clients.
Trauma focused practice uses methodologies to explore and process traumas, helping individuals learn how to cope and heal from them.
Healing is different for everyone and trauma therapy allows each person to move at a safe pace for them. Trauma therapy can be like slowly peeling back the layers of an onion, once one layer has been removed, there is room for more to show up and be explored. For others, learning new ways to soothe and regulate themselves may be enough.
The first step in exploring traumatic wounds is to establish a sense of safety in the therapy session and your every day life. We will build a solid foundation of safety and personal resources before sharing painful experiences. And you will not be asked to share something before you feel ready.
At Simplicity Counselling Services, I believe that everyone has the potential to live a fulfilling life. My counseling services are designed to help you overcome challenges and achieve your goals. Let me help you find your inner peace today.
I am a registered Social Worker and Somatic Experiencing Practitioner (SEP). I founded my practice in 2016 and provide therapy/counsel through in person, virtual and phone contact to adults, pre-teens and teens.
I have done inter-provincial assessments for organizations such as Workplace BC and am partnered with Valiant Recovery Treatment and Recovery C enter for aftercare counselling.
Personally, I am a woman who raised three children as a single parent, and went to Univeristy at the age of 38 for my Bachelor of Social Work. My life experience has taught me that growth requires great discomfort at times, and we will all require support during periods of struggle. There is a great vulnerability is asking for help, but there is great strength as well. As Brene Brown says, " Vulnerability is not weakness; it is our greatest measure of courage,"
As a Somatic Experiencing Practitioner and Registered Social Worker I utilize a variety of approaches. I work from a holistic base which includes Somatic Experiencing (SE), Strength-Based, Solution- Focused, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) and Mindfulness modalities. By slowing down our minds we can hear and respond to the needs of your mind, body and spirit.
SE differs from cognitive therapies in that its major interventional strategy involves bottom-up processing by directing the client's attention to internal sensations, both visceral (interoception and musculo-skeletal proprioception and kinesthesis) rather than primarily cognitive or emotional experiences. Peter Payne, Peter Levine
I believe in a holistic approach to mental health, addressing the mind, body and spirit built upon mutual trust, respect and caring.
My approach to therapy is rooted in empathy, compassion, and non-judgement. I strive to create a safe and supportive environment where you feel comfortable exploring your thoughts and feelings, and where you can develop the skills and tools need to thrive.

Trauma is not caused by the event or series of events, it is the overwhelmed response to the perceived threat to life that causes the nervous system to become unbalanced.
Physical trauma can be events such as falls, medical procedures, illness, car accidents, physical abuse, child birth, natural disasters etc.
Non-physical trauma can include grief/death of a loved one (including pets), divorce, witnessing violence, having experienced emotional abuse, coercion, etc.
Trauma can happen from a singe event as well as multiple events. It can complex and/or developmental. It is real and shows up in a variety of ways such as anxiety, depression, hypervigilance, poor decision making, being emotional reactive, self doubt, people pleasing, self isolation, immune disorders, unexplained aches and pains to name a few.
By gently and respectfully working with the body and mind trauma can be dissipated, resilience can be built and a new ability to experience joy organically emerges.
Grief is a multifaceted response to loss. Most commonly we think of grief being connected to the loss of someone or something that has died, to which a bond or affection was formed. While this is true, grief can also happen in response to the loss of a job, home, culture, finances, independence. To name a few. Predominately we tend to think of grief as being an emotional response to loss, but it also has physical, cognitive, behavioral, social, cultural, spiritual and philosophical dimensions. We all experience loss and the consequential grief that follows at some point in our lives. Sometimes the loss is expected and other times it may come as a shock. It presents differently for each of us and it can be messy and complicated and it sneaks up on us when we least expect it.
Grief can feel like a threat to our survival and is an extremely intense stressor. We all grieve differently and in our own time, however if you are feeling overwhelmed emotionally or physically, ( grief affects our physcial health as well as emotional) and are unable to find moments of happiness or find yourself endless ruminating, it is time to seek professionally help. We all need support at times , there is no shame in seeking it out.
Feeling down sometimes is normal and a part of life but hopelessness, ruminating thoughts and constant anxiety can be debilitating mentally and physically
You are not alone and your story needs to be heard. I provide a calm, safe space where you will be heard. You are unique and so is your journey. We can work together to find the ability, energy and motivation to find peace and joy in your life.
It can be challenging to have a healthy relationship with others if you don't have a healthy relationship with yourself.
I provide self exploration in a safe, non-judgemental atmosphere where discussion can take place and lead to a better understanding and love of self.
When there is acceptance of self, relationships can organically become easier to manage. Boundaries become more clear and we not only find ourselves becoming less reactive but we also find ourselves less tolerant of unhealthy behaviours towards us.
